2004 Topps, Roberto Alomar

Card No. 456

For the longest time, I assumed (wrongly) that this was Roberto Alomar's final Topps card....His card in the 2005 set is actually his final regular Topps entry....Robbie garnered 12 All-Star Game nods and 10 Gold Gloves during his Hall of Fame career.....This card represents his only Topps card as a Diamondback....His true rookie can be found in the 1988 Traded set....Alomar played just 38 games for the D-backs before he was traded to the White Sox in August 2004.

1991 Topps, Walt Weiss

Card No. 455

Shortstop Walt Weiss goes airborne to turn two on this gem from 1991 Topps....For my money, this is one of the best, most iconic horizontal cards Topps has ever produced....The '91 set marked the return of landscape-oriented cards, the first since 1974.....That's Indians catcher Joel Skinner hitting the deck....Walt was the A.L. Rookie of the Year in 1988....His rookie card appeared in the '88 Topps Traded set....Played just 40 games during the '91 season, batting .226 with 13 RBIs for Oakland.

2018 Topps, Blake Snell

Card No. 489

The ol' Jukebox brings us another Cy Young southpaw today, as Tampa Bay's Blake Snell gets his turn in the spotlight....Snell captured the A.L. CYA in 2018, just two years after his big league debut....The little water slide doohickey on the '18 Topps cards was kind of a turnoff initially, but the entire design has grown on me....Blake's rookie card came in the 2016 Update series....Snell's 21 wins and 1.89 ERA were both tops in the Junior Circuit during his Cy Young season of '18.

1974 Topps, Dave Parker

Card No. 252

During his playing days, Dave Parker earned the nickname "The Cobra" and, between you me, that particularly qualifies him as one of the biggest badasses in annals of American sports....Winning an MVP and two batting titles plus breaking the bank for the first million-dollar salary in baseball history helps, also....This is Dave's rookie card....He was featured in every Topps set through 1991....His final card appeared in the '91 Traded series....Dave contributed 4 homers and 29 RBIs over 220 ABs for the Bucs in 1974.

A member of the Arizona State Athletics Hall of Fame, Oddibe McDowell was also a member of the 1984 U.S. Olympic Team that featured Mark McGwire, Barry Larkin and Will Clark....I was lucky enough to find the 1985 Traded boxed set last year at a show for 5 bucks....Oddibe's true rookie appeared in the regular '85 set as part of the USA Baseball subset....His final Topps card is in the '94 Traded set....Finished fourth in A.L.
